TEK: how the graphics were done

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 13:45, 14/1/2002 | ,

TEK imageMax Palmer, graphics wizard responsible for the futuristic look of Artex's new Command and Conquer game, has taken time out to give us an exclusive look into how TEK was designed.

The article includes how Max got involved in the project, and technical details on how the best of RISC OS and Windows were brought together to produce this highly anticipated release. It also includes some rather groovy test graphics, including comparisons between original unit sketches and the finished article.

Unregistered user Nice article, and good work.
Max - Look foward to seeing you use a more chunky 3d software, ie, 3dMAX, Lightwave etc.

Unregistered user Max - Whoa, those graphics look amazing. Also, great article, I really found it gave a good insight into the challenges faced and how you overcame them. I can't wait to see more, like the waterfall. :)

Jan - Are you still on schedule for a release at the end of the month? and do you expect to release the game with a level editor? I doubt I can hold out much longer!

Unregistered user Thanks for all the positive comments about the article. I'm glad most people thought it was interesting. However, I'm about to do something similar again (not for Acorn Arcade I'm afraid) and wondered if there is anything in the article that you would like to know more about / found particularly interesting - since I could try and expand on these points.

Unregistered user I would be interested to know more about /how/ the 3D models were created using TopModel and also a little more about how you used the PC software that you used.

Also I would like to know things like how you managed to keep/achieve a uinform look to the grapics. Also how you managed to get the different bits of the cliff or river to connect up without a visible join. (I assume these features are made up from many different "tiles")

Cheers,

Mike

Unregistered user Wow! Those graphics look sweet!

Now when are Artex going to let us get our dirty mitts on the game, I can't wait to have a go!
