Viewfinder supports Radeon

Posted by fwibbler on 09:51, 5/9/2003 | , ,

A recent press release from Windfall engineering has informed us that they have not been idle in recent months.
New Viewfinder cards are now available fitted the ATi Radeon 7000 and 7500.
The Radeon 7000 is a 64mb card with TV-out and the 7500 has 128mb, TV-out and also a DVI connector.

As well as the accelerated desktop graphics, these cards also offer full support for 2 and 4 colour modes, TV-out capability up to 1024x768 and Dual monitor support is in development too.

The 7000 and 7500 based Viewfinders are available for 250 and 300 Euro inc VAT respectively.
Upgrades for existing ViewFinder users are also available for 150 and 200 Euro inc. VAT.

See the Windfall website for further details.

Bloody hell! Thats was fast!
TV-out allows you to connect your machine to the TV and have the desktop on that instead.
Cheers!

Unregistered user Does anyone know if they have the DVI out working? It would be really nice to get digital out from a RISC OS machine for driving higher-end LCDs

Unregistered user Andrew> No, not TV modulators. The "TV out" from a graphics card is really just "composite video out" - not modulated up to UHF transmission frequencies. In layman's terms it means you don't get an "aerial socket" out the back of the card, you get a Phono or S-Video connector which goes to the SCART/composite-in connector on your TV.

Unregistered user The socalled TV Out is, as is typical in the PC world wrongly labeled as TV-out while it actually is a composite video out.

As been said: it allows to use a TV as a primary display device instead of the usual 15-pins SVGA computer monitor. Some cards offer dual desktops with one computer monitor and a TV and some configurations even allows simultanious full screen movies on the TV while windowed video playback on the computer monitor.

Needless to say that the latter won't be possible on the RPC because we can't play movies on our machine. (I doubt that 'replay' works with overlays)

regards,

Manu T
