Bits 'n' pieces

None of this is really worth a news story in itself, but there's been a few minor updates to various things recently that you might be interested in.

FlaYmz logoFlaYmz gets new site design
FlaYmz' site has had a makeover. FlamYz is a coding group that is to produce games for the Microdigital Omega. Currently, their first game is nearly complete; only the introduction needs to be finished. pT, an ex-VOTI member, is working on this - with Lee Johnston providing the music.

Surgeon 0.08 released
Jeffrey Lee aka Phlamethrower has released a new version of Surgeon, the Asylum level editor. It's only a minor update, with no new features, but is worth having as it makes it less likely you'll lose all your work.

BeebIt goes 32-bit
A new version of Michael Foot's Beeb emulator BeebIt has been released; and is now 32-bit compatible. Some of his other software has also been updated; of interest to you lot is RISC OS ports of Dare Devil Denis (I wasted hours on that on my BBC...), Chuckie Egg, Guardian, Cybertron Mission, and Dungeon Adventure. LEDScroll has also been updated; this fun little silly puts a nice scrolling LED display on your desktop, which you can get to display any text file you like!

The Iconbar if you haven't seen it already - Jason Tribbeck is being silly.

Unregistered user While BeebIt and the others have been made 32 bit compatible, I have no idea whether or not they will work on an Iyonix. Does the Iyonix support low res modes such as BBC Modes 7 and 12? If anyone would care to try, I'd be very interested to know what you find.

Unregistered user Just to say Michael - I love your Dare Devil Denis port :-) Pity I'm so useless at it...

Unregistered user Cheers. I'm very happy with the way DDD and Chuckie Egg have turned out too. The other 2 are not so good because they use BBC Envelopes for their sound which I've not had any success in emulating yet. :(

Unregistered user Could you add support for UEF tape files which exist commonly for the Electron? :D

Unregistered user Andrew, you can use BBCFiles to extract UEF files. It's probably better if you use the extracted files and I change BeebIt to ignore *TAPE commands.

Unregistered user Or you use the cracked ADFS version of whatever you were wanting to play as long as you can get the files out of the image.

Unregistered user Unfortunately it's not the *TAPE commands that cause the problems with UEF files, it's the constant CHAIN"" or *RUN commands in the files.

Unregistered user Yes that's right and that's what stops the converted UEFs in their tracks.

Unregistered user The particular game that I suspect Andrew wants to play is available as a naughty, cracked ADFS disk image. I don't think the CHAIN"" and */ problems are going to affect it much.

But for tape games, no tape support means no games. :(

Unregistered user I'm not telling. Suffice to say I have the original not far from where I'm typing this...

Unregistered user I've had it confirmed that the Iyonix does not support mode 7 nor does it support modes with less that 256 colours. This means I'll need to re-write all the screen mapping routines and also implement an emulation of teletext before it will work.

Unregistered user David - if you remember that disk image is an adf file which Beebit doesn't support iirc.

Michael Foot Message #87492, posted at 19:46, 20/2/2003, in reply to message #87491
Unregistered user Yes, BeebIt does support interleaved and non-interleaved ADFS images. Both Master 128 and Master Compact modes emulate the 1770 FDC and read/write ADFS images fine.

Unregistered user But this is the Electron version and using an ADFS. I think you could get an ADFS upgrade for the electron but I'll have to wait for Electron emulation to get it to work.
