The day is here, and we'll be there. If you're not going to the Wakefield show you can get all the latest news and pictures from our roving picture reporter - me! If you're at the show, look out for the chap with the mobile camera phone and say hello. These messages were brought to you by the colour orange and the letter and numbers T300.

Unregistered user So Omega's still a long way off it seems. Bloody pointless continuing with the "Oh yeh, we'll do this and that and the other feature" and then not produce diddlydick for years. I'm suprised the roof hasn't blown off the building with all the hot air and nonsense MD must be spouting today.

Unregistered user Impression can't use the new Select 3 custom icons because CC draw all their buttons with their own code. Bit arrogant/silly but at the time it was done, it made Impression look superb - it had 3d slabbing before anything else on RISC OS.

Congrats to the winner of the Omega, is he going to walk home with it or just get added to the list? If he gets today hopefully we'll get a preview on iconbar.com?

Unregistered user Congratulation to the winner of the Omega. Shouldn't he be rushing somewhere to watch a very important football match?
OK, maybe everyone's not so enthusiastic about Reading FC as I am.

Unregistered user 999quid. Somewhat pricey! You can get a Athlon 1800+ with 1280x1024 screen for a slice less than that. A celery's an 'orrible chip, IMO. No cache.

You're also paying for the emulator and for RISC OS. That doesn't come cheap.

Unregistered user Oh. That's true of course. :-) I hope to gods someone's made the RISC OS networking work on it. It shouldn't be hard work, just fiddly, but without it... what use laptop?

The Celeron does have a cache; I presume you were being sarcastic about that! It's a good processor and doesn't draw as much current as the P4, but it does seem a bit wasteful to pay 999 UKP for a PC laptop and emulate a much slower computer on it. At least it's faster and more colourful than an A4, though. ;)

Both winners of Omegas (second was exhibitor prize won by ARM club) took their machines home with them.
Hopefully we might finally get a reasonable comparison from one or both of the parties.

I've written quite a text on why I feel the Alpha is both fantastic, and the computer for me. I realise that many people will find this view odd if not repellant, so for an explanation, instead of duplication here, why don't you head over to this forum? :D

Ummm, thay play football in Reading? Nope, sorry - I spent Saturday in Wakefield (as you will all realise!), and Sunday at Bentwaters Park, near Ipswich (Isn't that close to Iyonix home?). Got home last night, plugged the Omega in, and it booted up! It feels quite quick, but I haven't loaded any other s/w yet. I think that everyone is aware that the network card isn't available yet, and that there has been a slight glitch with the floppy disc controller - I guess I'll be writing a few CD/Rs to get stuff copied onto the machine!

My significant h/w purchase was a new scanner (Epson 1660, from Castle). Iset that up on the Iyonix, and it seems to be working fine - very pleased with it. I also ordered an Alpha which, I was assured, will ship this week - too many new toys!

Oh, BTW - one of the first to buy an Iyonix? - I was at the front of the queue at Birmingham. Dear Stacey hadn't quite woken up when the doors opened - she tried to charge me £12.99 for the computer!

Just thought, MicroDigital still have my £250 Omega deposit! I guess it can be put towards the Alpha payment, or be used to pay for some of the Omega optional extras, when they're available.

Chocolate fish to first person to spot the irony:

MD went on about the Iyonix not being finished when it shipped (arguably it wasn't, but that was UDMA, and it was emmimently usable without it), and now MD are threatening to ship a machine which most certainly isn't finished, lacking features which without (IMO) it certainly won't be usable. Sigh.

peterb: Hope you'll find the time to do a write-up of it, but I guess it'll be tough without the networking.

Congrats on your win.

Unregistered user Anyone got some higher resolution photos and a proper show report? I want to know if Cerilica released a new version of Vantage or was it on display, for example. Surely Drobe aren't the only ones who took a good camera?!
