January News Round-up

Some things we noticed in the RISC OS world this month. What did you see?
 
RDSP (the free Sound module from AMCOG games) updated to version 0.40. Some new effects and Stereo sound placement have been added.
 
Font Directory Pro updated to version 3.22 to improve compatibility on RISCOS 6 and Select.
 
R-CompInfo released OS Update 10 for ARMX6 along with a beta version including the SMP Multi core support to experiment with.
 
BBC Radio 4 talked to Eben Upton about the Pi (available on iPlayer for the near future).
 
Lots of interesting updates on the Raspberry Pie competition at riscos.fr
 
Elesar updates their Linux release for Titanium to keep current with Debian updates.
 
News appearing for next months South-West Show.
 
Jim Lesurf has republished a large collection of his sound articles on his website
 
Wispy wifi interface reviewed on RISC OS blog.
 
Updated StrongHelp C Library manual is now available on riscos.info

Some things we noticed in the RISC OS world this month. What did you see?
 
More update to RDSP announced on ROOL forums
 
Elesar releases an update for Titanium users wanting to use two screens.
 
Autumn 2017 issue of Drag'n'Drop is now available on the website.
 
Show dates for 2018 all now released with SW show on 24th February, Wakefield Show on 21st April and London Show on 27th October.
 
80% of the RISC OS user guide is now updated and ROOL are asking for volunteers to complete the task.
 
Sophie Wilson was a guest on the Selywn team in the Christmas University challenge contest.
 
Some interesting updates on the RISC OS Linux port over on ROOL.

RISCOSbits makes your Pi-Top into a proper RISC OS machine with a themed cover.
 
DDE28 get a quick update to fix a bug.
 
AMCOG updates their new Protector game
 
!Artworks 2.X3 is now available. ArtWorks newsletter #77 sent out (76 was published over 5 years ago).

A third release of !DualHead from R-Comp lets Titanium do 2560x1440 screen display on a single screen.

A new version of RiscOSM from Sine Nomine Software
 
A new software compilation from Soft Rock Software

RISC OS London Show 2017

This year's London Show is due to take place on Saturday the 28th of October, at the usual location of the St. Giles Hotel in Feltham. The show runs from 11 AM to 5 PM, with tickets being £5 at the door (and under-16's free). Exhibitors this year are set to include:The theatre schedule is yet to be finalised, and with the number of new and interesting exhibitors it's anyone's guess who's going to be filling the slots. What are your predictions?

A quick round-up of news we noticed in the RISC OS world (please feel free to post in comments anything missed).
 
A new edition of Drag'n'Drop was published with a timely tutorial on upgrading your Pi to 5.23.
 
Some interesting developments in multi-core support for RISC OS.
 
The 5.23 release for the Titanium is now on ROOL site. R-CompInfo released their official version of it for their TiMachine.
 
Elesar also provided a new sales home for CloneDisc and SystemDisc.
 
Some new hardware with the RaspberryRo Lite (from 4D) and and a new mouse solution for older machines. RISC OS bits brought us the ROKit and PiSSDup.
 
RISC OS blog reviewed RISC OS on the Pi3 and Cyborg (a new game from AMCOG).
 
On The Icon Bar, we grilled Richard Brown about the SW show, Orpheus, RISC OS Developments (and which really is better -!Zap or !StrongED). And Jason Tribbeck announced he was back...
 
Discknight 1.53 is a major update making use of the new features in RISC OS 5.23
 
R-Comp released its !DualHead software to allow its TiMachine to make use of that second video port on the back.

Wakefield Acorn & RISC OS Show, 22nd April 2017

It's now just under two weeks until this year's Wakefield show. On 22nd April the Cedar Court Hotel near Wakefield will be filled to the brim with all manner of Acorn and RISC OS related people and paraphernalia, including but not limited to:In addition to the usual number of new and updated products that will be on display around the show, ROOL are promising an "announcement of epic proportions", suggesting that this show isn't one to miss.
 
The show will be open from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, with tickets charged at £5 on the door, although children under 13 can get in free if they're accompanied by an adult.
